As you read through
the following description of our worship service, please keep in
mind that churches of Christ are independent, and therefore, what we
do may be different than that of other churches of Christ.
Our Meeting Place
When you enter our
building, you will be greeted by people who want to make your visit
with us a great experience. They will be happy to give
you directions to our classes or restrooms. We do not have
reserved seating, so please sit anywhere you like.
Singing Praises
Singing is an
important and beautiful part of our worship time. We encourage
each other and praise our God from our hearts as we sing to Him.
The lyrics to the songs we sing are projected on the front wall of
the auditorium. We are blessed to have a dynamic praise team
leading us in our worship to the Lord. We are encouraged by
their praise as we sing along with them, and we invite you to join
in singing with us.
Praying
We believe in the
power of prayer. Several times throughout our worship, you
will be invited to join us as we come before God in prayer. If
you have a prayer request, there is a basket on the table in the
main entrance. Your prayer will be presented during the
worship service.
Our Communion
From the son of one of our members:
About leading the Lord's Supper, it's been a very long time since
I've seen you in that capacity...I'm fond of the notion and the
meaning it holds. It's an honor to facilitate it, even if it's just
"your turn". It's a good time to consider taking the Eucharist as a
commitment to being the living divinity we want to see in the world;
in the middle east, at home, etc.
We remember Christ's sacrifice through communion, and by ingesting
it we commit our lives to service of the highest standards of love.
I'd pray that all of us, even those battered by war, fear and strife
can hear the still small voice and make the choices necessary in
every moment to realize peace.
For those with open hearts, we cannot help but be bent by the cries
of the oppressed; so it is our duty to meet those cries with love.
For the oppressed (the people of Iraq, our soldiers, and everyone
who is not at present able to live free from fear, hatred and/or
resignation), I pray they too can feel the silent power of love
supporting this whole creation. That is my commitment and prayer
everyday, and it brought sharply into focus with this the second
deployment of my sister.
The only thing that can renew the possibility for real freedom is
the knowing that when we listen to and abide by the law of love we
will see the humanity in our enemy and chose a different way to
engage him or her. Despite the cacophony of voices to the contrary -
the divisive notions that there is an US vs. THEM dichotomy - I know
there is first and foremost a WE and I pray that WE remember. I will
drink and eat to that.
I love you Dad, Have a good meal. Christian
Collection
During our worship
time, we will collect contributions from our members. Plates
will be passed through the auditorium for those who desire to
support the efforts of Dardenne Prairie church of Christ.
Guests are not
expected to contribute.
Children's
Worship
On Sunday mornings,
we have a special program for children Kindergarten through 2nd
grade. At the appropriate time, children are escorted to
Children's Worship Hour, which is held in our other building.
During this time, they sing songs, listen to a Bible story, and
often make crafts. These classes are coordinated with the same
Bible message as our Sunday School lessons.
The children will be
brought back to the main Auditorium following the Worship service.
You may attend this worship time with your child until they are
comfortable.
Nursery
Our Nursery is
staffed by parents eager to serve you. The Nursery is for
children aged birth to 4. Please be sure to let our staff know
of any special needs you or your child may have. Our Nursery
is open to our Auditorium with a 2-way window. You may observe
your child, however, they will not be able to see you.
Words of
Encouragement
During our worship
assembly you will hear a message from the Bible by our Minister, or
on occasion, a guest speaker. The lesson will last from 20 to
30 minutes. We are confident that you will find the lesson
relevant and encouraging.
Bible Classes
We believe in the
inherent perfection and authority of God's word. It is our
only guide book for spiritual growth. We want our children to
grow up knowing the Lord and the Bible. We need the strength
and encouragement it gives on a daily basis. With that in
mind, we invite you to attend our Bible classes. You and your
children will benefit in many ways by spending time in studying
God's Word. Your children will enjoy their Bible teachers and
we are sure you will enjoy the experience of sharing in our study of
God's Word.
